Course Description:
Duration: 1 Day On Snow, 6 CEUs
Learning Connection Highlight: Teaching and Technical Skills
Description: Improve your Teaching Skills with students and learn to increase their learning opportunities without using a progression. Participants will learn how limiting options for their students (constraints - environmental, task, and individual) they set their students up to find their own movement solutions to improve their ski technique. This clinic is well suited for level 3 certified members seeking greater exploration of teaching tactics and technique.
Prerequisites: Level 3 Certification or Level 3 Tech /MA Module Pass, Professional Membership
Clinic Outcomes: By the end of this clinic, Participants will:
- Understand basic concepts of constraints based learning.
- Recognize how modifications to traditional activities will challenge student precision, adaptability, and versatility.
- Describe elements of skill acquisition and how activity variations develop skill.
- Recognize how to change constraints to improve learning/performance for individual students.
Clinic Experiences:
- Group leader will facilitate collaboration to give examples of constraints and how they influence the Problem Solving Teaching Style. Participants will collaborate to focus appropriate teaching terrain that challenges them while staying safe and in control - expect to ski Black and Steep Blue terrain both on and off piste.
- Each participant will teach their peers using a single constrain for a short teaching segment. Each participant will teach the group a second time while navigating at least one constraint imposed by the Clinic Leader to achieve a clinic outcome.
- Participants will reflect on the challenges and outcomes of using constraints after each teaching segment, gaining insight from their peers and clinic leader leading to practical knowledge they can apply in their lessons.
All PSIA-AASI members must follow the PSIA-AASI code of conduct.
All members participating in an Intermountain clinic or assessment must wear a helmet when sliding on snow using lift-accessed terrain.
