Course Description:

Teaching Skills Clinic. Full Day, On-Snow. Qualifies as Assessment Prep and Continuing Education

Assessment Prep Goal: Clinic designed for Level 1 Candidates to develop teaching understanding and practice the assessment format for the Level 1 Teaching Assessment. Candidates should be prepared to be in front of their peers in a teaching scenario and be able to teach up through the beginner/novice zone.

*THIS COURSE IS REQUIRED if you are not affiliated with a ski & snowboard school or have not gone through a new hire training clinic at a Snowsports School.

If you are not affiliated with a member school, you will need to provide a lift ticket for this course and for the assessment.

Clinic Outcomes: By the end of this clinic, participants will:

• Identify likely motivations and emotions of individuals and exhibit communication skills to create a welcoming and professional environment & better understand group dynamics.
• Plan learning outcomes and organize progressive learning experiences relevant to beginner/novice students using student goals and observations about skier performance to create a lesson plan.
• Deliver a logical progression of experiences that culminate in a memorable lesson.
• Utilize feedback loops to reflect and review experiences throughout the lesson and acknowledge progress and identify performance change related to lesson outcomes.
• Practice the exam format in front of a group of peers and an examiner.
• Describe their teaching performance in reference to an ideal performance.

All PSIA-AASI members must follow the PSIA-AASI code of conduct.

All members participating in an Intermountain clinic or assessment must wear a helmet when sliding on snow using lift-accessed terrain.
