Course Description:

The Level 2 Skiing and Movement Analysis Exam assesses a candidate's ability to demonstrate skiing performance and analyze movement patterns using the PSIA Cross Country Technical Model and Cross Country Ski Fundamentals. Through a series of scored tasks, candidates demonstrate the ability to create and maintain balance, direct and manage pressure along the ski, and coordinate movements with poling and timing to achieve effective and efficient skiing outcomes consistent with PSIA National Standards.

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Apply the PSIA Cross Country Technical Model to evaluate the relationship between movements and ski performance.
  • Demonstrate effective application of the Cross Country Ski Fundamentals:
  • Create and maintain balance.
  • Manage force and pressure from ski to ski and between ski and snow.
  • Coordinate movements with variation in poling and timing to achieve efficient and effective performance.
  • Analyze skiing performance using the XC Technical Model and National Standards.

Assessment Activities

  • Demonstrate Level 2 skiing performance characteristics across a variety of tasks, terrain, and snow conditions.
  • Identify and perform the technical objectives of scored exam tasks.
  • Adapt movements and tactics to varying terrain, conditions, and task requirements.
  • Observe, describe, and evaluate movement patterns using the cross country technical model terminology.
  • Recognize cause-and-effect relationships between body movements and ski performance outcomes.
  • Identify individual performance priorities and prescribe appropriate activities for improvement.
  • Apply feedback and self-assessment strategies to improve skiing performance and movement accuracy.

Key Understanding

The scored tasks are tools used to evaluate overall skiing performance and movement analysis. Successful candidates demonstrate understanding of the XC Ski Fundamentals and ability to apply them effectively across a variety of skiing situations, meeting PSIA National Standards.
